Shelby Foote

After my wife Whitney and I had just begun dating, she sent me a package in the mail.  In it was a gift to me–Shelby Foote’s Civil War trilogy.  At that moment, I knew this was going somewhere.

For Christmas, I received Ken Burns’ documentary on the Civil War, which features Foote prominently.  The clips below are from that documentary.

Not long ago, my Spiritual Disciplines professor, Dr. Donald Whitney, referenced Foote in class.  Rule of thumb: if Dr. Whitney thinks someone is cool, they are.

Now let me say that everyone needs to know about Shelby Foote.
